Hackett spent the first 15 games of the 2022 season as the head coach of the Broncos. Still, he was fired with two weeks left in the season after he made a series of in-game blunders and was unable to put together a capable offense after the offseason trade for Russell Wilson. Hackett, 43, was fired after a 4-11 start to his first season.
A native of Fullerton, CA, Hackett has extensive experience as an offensive coordinator, serving in the role with the Buffalo Bills (2013-2014), Jacksonville Jaguars (2016-2018), and Green Bay Packers (2019-2021).
Hackett's father, Paul Hackett, spent four seasons as Jets offensive coordinator from 2001 to 2004 under Herm Edwards.
The team also announced hiring Keith Carter as offensive line and run game coordinator.
Mike LaFleur was fired as Jets OC after two seasons earlier this month.
It should also be mentioned Hackett and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers are very close, which could turn out to be relevant if Green Bay and Rodgers decide to pursue a trade this offseason.
The Jets are a QB away from being an actual contender.
