FOX commentator Greg Olsen earned viewers' respect for his remarks on the controversial holding call during Super Bowl 57.
Greg Olsen gained the admiration of NFL fans during Super Bowl 57, but it may have come at the expense of upsetting the league and his employers at FOX. Olsen, who has been a full-time employee of the network since 2021, is soon to be replaced by Tom Brady, so perhaps he has decided to trust his instincts and speak his mind while he still can. FOX is waiting for Brady's arrival, but Olsen has grown into one of the most skilled color analysts in the business and is unlikely to be unemployed for long. His opinion on the controversial penalty that ended Super Bowl 57 and ruined what had been an exciting game was likely to have endeared him to viewers on the night.
During the game, James Bradberry was called for holding JuJu Smith-Schuster, and although the action itself did not appear to interfere with Juju, the Chiefs got a fresh set of downs because of the call, and were able to run down the clock and win the game with a field goal. Olsen disagreed with his colleague Mike Pereira and said, "I don't know, Mike. I think on this stage, I think you let them play. Obviously, Mahomes thought he saw it. I don't know, I think you let them play. Finish this thing out. I don't love that call, Mike." While there is no doubt that there was holding on the play, inconsistency in officiating has left everyone perplexed.
