Carr was demoted to a secondary role during the last two regular season games, ceding his starting position to backup Jarrett Stidhan. The 31-year-old quarterback all but confirmed his impending departure from the team with a farewell message to Raiders fans via social media last month.
Recently, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler provided some illuminating details regarding Carr's situation. Teams seeking Carr's services would prefer if he re-negotiated his contract, although they do not anticipate that he will. According to one source cited by Fowler, a third-round draft pick would be considered sufficient compensation to finalize a trade. The New Orleans Saints are believed to be the only team that has shown a level of engagement to the extent of scheduling a visit. The Saints had a 7-10 record last season, narrowly missing out on the NFC South division crown, which was won by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an 8-9 record. With Tom Brady's retirement, the division is now more open than ever.
The New Orleans Saints extended Jameis Winston's contract last off-season with a two-year deal, however, he appeared in only three games before a back injury led to Dennis Allen starting Andy Dalton. The latter was the starting quarterback for the Saints' final 14 games. Carr had a disappointing final season with the Raiders, completing 60.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns, with 14 interceptions. Prior to the 2022 season, Carr had thrown for over 4,000 passing yards in each of the previous four years.
Throughout his career, Carr has accumulated 35,222 passing yards and 217 touchdowns while also having 99 interceptions.
