He started his career at Clemson on fire. He played alongside QB Trevor Lawrence and WR Tee Higgins and you could make a case that Ross was the best player of the bunch. In fact, he had a 1,000-yard and 9 touchdowns freshman season that included six catches for 153 yards and a touchdown in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Alabama and he was regarded as one of the truly elite talents at the wide receiver position. Even though he was not the same player exactly, he was still productive. In fact, As a redshirt junior in 2021, Ross finished with a team-high of 524 receiving yards on 47 receptions and 3 touchdowns in 10 games.
However, he was never able to have another season at his peak performance. He suffered a stinger in practice that unfortunately revealed a potentially serious congenital spinal condition that caused him to miss an entire year of football. He did eventually return to the field, but last year's production was not the same and his season was cut short due to a stress fracture in his foot.
With that being said, I think it would be a good move that could provide great upside to give Ross a shot. I'm not saying we should sign him to a fully guaranteed contract, but we should at least invite him to next week's minicamp. Let's not forget that Ross was a projected top 10 pick in the draft a few years ago...
