Mark Murphy, president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, has given a strong indication that the team is prepared to part ways with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers. Despite the quarterback's indecision regarding his future in the NFL, it seems the New York Jets are feeling optimistic about the possibility of acquiring the Pro Football Hall of Famer via trade.
During an interview with WBAY-TV's Adriana Torres, Murphy was asked if there is any scenario in which Rodgers would remain as the starting quarterback for the Packers. Murphy's response suggested that the team would prefer to move on without him.
After the 2020 season, Rodgers requested a trade from the Packers. Despite a lengthy back-and-forth, he eventually agreed to return to Green Bay for another year. The quarterback went on to secure his fourth MVP award and signed a three-year extension worth $150 million in the offseason, which was seen as a sign he would retire with the Packers.
However, recent signs suggest that the two parties are on the brink of parting ways. The Packers finished with a disappointing 8-9 record last season, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2018. In Week 18, Rodgers left Lambeau Field unsure of his future, and two months later, the NFL world is still waiting for answers.
