Here is the staggering amount of money that Roquan Smith could be fine if he doesn't play today vs the Chiefs
Roquan Smith has been holding out of practices ever since training camp started. He was trying to get a contract extension. However, things took a turn for the worse when he asked publicly to be traded away from Chicago...
Until being removed from PUP list, he could stand and watch or attend meetings without being subject to fines, but after he went public Tuesday with complaints about the negotiations and asked for a trade, the team removed him from PUP. So now Smith could be fined up to $40,000 for days he spends watching instead of practicing.
Daniel Greenberg reported that the Chicago Bears can fine Roquan Smith $572,000 if he decides that he doesn't want to play in tomorrow's preseason game.
This is crazy. Imagine being fine over HALF A MILLION for one missed game... I can't imagine the Bears actually fining him.
Here is what HC Matt Eberflus had to say:
"Roquan Smith came off the PUP, he was cleared by our medical staff as healthy," Eberflus said. "He did not practice. And the reason why for that is, you'll have to ask him. We expect all of our healthy players to practice, and that was his decision.
"Like I said, you have to ask him. I have not talked to him about it. So I have no further comment on that situation from there."
