Here is why a trade for this receiver does not make sense for the Bears

At this point, it's no secret that the Bears are in desperate need of wide receivers.

As we speak, here is who they have on the roster:

I am 100% sold on Mooney. I think Pringle and St. Brown can provide some pretty solid play but nothing more than that. As for the rest, they can be good depth pieces, but we should not expect them to play a ton. With that being said, there are no two ways about it, this receiving core needs a lot of help for next season if we want Justin Fields to be able to throw the football.

One player that has been in the middle of trade talks is Brandin Cooks. Cooks is only 28 years old and his salary is around $12 million annually. He has eclipsed the 1000 yard mark in 6 of his last 7 seasons. Now, this all sounds great. However, I don't think GM Ryan Poles should go after him.

First of all, the asking price will probably be pretty high and the Bears are not in a good place where they can start throwing away draft picks left and right. Also, while Cooks is underpaid for the moment, he is only under contract for one more season and will be looking for a payday next offseason. The Bears will probably have the money to extend him, but as we have seen lately, the WR contract market is crazy high at the moment.

But, the most important reason why I don't think the Bears should go after him is his play style. Don't get me wrong, Cooks is an amazing player on the field. However, he is pretty much the exact same size as Darnell Mooney. Cooks is 5"10, 183 pounds to be exact. With Dazz Newsome and Byron Pringle also being smaller, I don't think Cooks would be the right fit for the Bears. A trade would definitely be forcing something and as GM Ryan Poles mentioned multiple times, he is not looking to do that.

As much as this pains me to say this, I have a feeling he will get traded to the Green Bay Packers. He would objectively be a good fit in that offense, and lord knows they need some help at receiver.
