It made sense because Watson was an early day 2 prospect and the Bears were in need of wide receiver help.
Well, instead, Watson went to the Green Bay Packers and the Bears drafted WR Velus Jones in the 3rd round.
Here is a very interesting stat that might indicate that Jones was actually the better prospect and that he could become a better player in the NFL.
This is huge. In addition to that, Watson played against far lesser competition at North Dakota State whereas Jones played against the best player every week at Tennesse (SEC Football).
Also, Velus Jones averaged more yards after contact (4.02) than every single wide receiver taken ahead of him in the draft. That is an incredible fact, because this receiving class was extremely deep. When you combined that with Jones averaging 8.32 yards after the catch last season, you get a YAC monster. So, unless the majority of his receptions were behind the line of scrimmage, that means Jones was a walking first down machine.
