Justin Fields has resumed full practice this week after a four-game hiatus due to a dislocated right thumb. The Bears' head coach, Matt Eberflus, indicated on Monday that Fields is slated to lead the team against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, provided his recovery continues on its positive trajectory throughout the week.

Fields has met these expectations with a notable progression in practice, as noted by Eberflus. "He's been showing consistent improvement every day," Eberflus remarked on Friday. "He's regained his timing with the receivers and his footwork and accuracy are back on track. He's looked sharp throughout the week."

Luke Getsy, the offensive coordinator, mentioned on Thursday that the key challenge with Fields' return was assessing how much the quarterback could manage in his first game back. "We're evaluating the extent of his capabilities," Getsy explained. "The practice reps are crucial to ensure he's comfortable and fully ready to return."

During his time off the field, Fields maintained a rigorous mental preparation regime, mentally simulating game plays each Sunday through a headset.

Now, with his body recovered and his mental game sharp, Fields is eager to tackle the crucial seven-game segment that will influence his future with the Bears. His thumb has healed well, and he's feeling positive about his physical state.

Fields commented on his condition, "It's feeling pretty good. It's great to be throwing again. My arm feels fresh. I'm feeling ready."

As Fields prepares for Sunday's game in Detroit, two questions are in focus. One is whether he will use any aid for his thumb to enhance grip during the game. Initially, Fields tried practicing with a glove, eventually opting for just some supportive tape. "I'll decide on the tape based on how I feel on Sunday," he said, explaining his preference for comfort over the glove.

The second consideration for the Bears is adjusting their play-calling between shotgun and under-center snaps to accommodate Fields' condition. Getsy is working through the week to finalize what feels best for Fields.

In Fields' absence, the Bears managed a 2-2 record with Tyson Bagent, an undrafted rookie, demonstrating his competence as a backup quarterback. Fields' return is expected to inject a fresh energy into the team, which is evident in the excitement among both the defensive and offensive members, as observed by Eberflus during walkthroughs.
