Khalil Herbert is easily MVP of the game
Running 157 yards on 20 carries, averaging 7.8 ypc, with the longest being 52 yards, and 2 touchdowns, with 2 receptions for 12 yards, It's more than safe to say that Herbert won the game for the Bears. We'll get to Fields later but when Montgomery went out early, I was nervous. Herbert has been looking good but I would say he gave Montgomery a run for his job this past week. He was explosive in his runs, finding pockets and keeping the ball safe. I look forward to seeing what he can do while Montgomery is out.
Getsy is holding back the offense
Don't get me wrong I like Getsy, I think he has good ideas, but he has got to start using Justin. 45 pass attempts in 3 games are ridiculous considering what Mooney and Kmet are capable of. We heard all this hype about how they were going to use Fields, but all they used him for was to pass Khalil the ball. I think with the criticism mounting we could see him use more passes, but I also get the vibe that Getsy does not trust Fields just yet, so the training wheels will likely stay on.
The Field of Dreams is looking a little nightmarish
With Getsy holding him down and only being allowed to pass 17 times against the Texans. You would think he would do his best to complete more than 8 of those passes. Yet he finished 8 for 17, for 106 yards, with a 47.1% completion rate, 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and 5 sacks. He did, however, show he is capable of running the ball in a pinch, he clocked 47 yards on 8 attempts with one being a 29-yarder that had everyone on their feet. The interceptions were ugly
Smith is playing for that contract
Smith along with Herbert won us the game, Smith looked hungry and his interception at the end sealed it away for us. Without that pick, we would have likely gone overtime, and I don't think any of us had faith in Fields to get it done. With his contract looming Smith will need to play hard every week, and if he does the Bears better pay that man. Also St. Brown looked great as well.
Lovie is still a bum
Bad play-calling, a dumb challenge wasting a timeout, picks, and blowing a fourth-quarter lead, boy oh boy was it good to see Lovie back to form. I can't be the only one that enjoyed beating him out of his old home. The best part of the day 10/10.
Those are my observations, what do you think?
