Injury update on Jaylon Johnson
Brad Biggs reported that Matt Eberflus called Bears CB Jaylon Johnson (quad) "day-by-day." He has missed the previous two games as the defense prepares to face an opponent with multiple threats on the outside.
Indeed, Johnson's role would be such a key one versus the Vikings this Sunday as he would potentially face superstar Justin Jefferson a lot during the match.
«Anytime you can get a good player like that back who can cover really well (it's big),» coach Matt Eberflus said. «That would be good if we can get that done. Again, he's day by day. We'll see where it is.»
In Johnson's absence, the starting cornerback trio the last two weeks has consisted of rookies Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Jones, and Kindle Vildor. Matt Eberflus and his defensive staff are working to formulate a game plan that would pay enough attention to Jefferson, while still giving respect to the very solid ground attack lead by Alexander Mattison and Dalvin Cook. This is no easy task for any defensive coach, especially when you are missing your #1 corner.
Jaylon Johnson recently detailed what the matchup against Jefferson means to him in an interview with 670 The score.
«I mean, that's definitely the elephant in the room,» Johnson said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Sept. 19. «We all know that Jefferson is that guy definitely in the NFC, but let alone in the NFC North. So, that matchup is definitely always going to be circled for me. It was him and Davante (Adams), but now that Davante is gone (to Las Vegas), he's definitely that guy.
