The Saskatchewan Roughriders have recently added wide receiver Chase Claypool to their negotiation list, as reported by TSN's Farhan Lalji. However, any potential move to the CFL appears to be distant, as Claypool is currently fielding interest from NFL teams and is expected to sign with one in the near future. Lalji points out that the Roughriders have not reached out to Claypool or his agent, nor do they have plans to do so in the immediate future.

This tactic of adding players to negotiation lists is not uncommon in the CFL, as evidenced by the example of the Lions quickly removing Colin Kaepernick from their list last season. Lalji emphasizes that such moves serve strategic purposes, potentially providing teams with valuable assets or trade leverage. Nevertheless, Lalji expresses skepticism about Claypool's likelihood of playing in the CFL, suggesting the odds are slim.

A former second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Claypool is currently a free agent for the first time in his career. Despite a promising start to his NFL journey, with impressive performances in his initial seasons, his production has waned in recent years. Following a trade from Pittsburgh to the Bears in 2022 and subsequent transfer to the Dolphins early last season amid coaching disputes, Claypool's playing time has been limited, and his on-field output has declined significantly.

In summary, while the Saskatchewan Roughriders have added Chase Claypool to their negotiation list, the prospect of him joining the CFL seems remote at this point, given his ongoing NFL interests and recent career trajectory.
