In his first year with the Lions, Williams showcased his abilities and quickly became a vital member of the team. However, instead of retaining him, the Lions signed David Montgomery as his replacement. Williams expressed his disappointment with the situation in a recent interview with MLive.
"The offer they gave me, I felt like was disrespectful and showing that they really didn't want me to be there like that," Williams said. Despite his departure, Williams was grateful for his time in Detroit and will always cherish the experience.
Williams had an incredible season with the Lions, rushing for 1,066 yards and scoring an impressive 17 touchdowns. He became the first Lions player to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season since Reggie Bush in 2013.
Moving forward, Williams will be joining a Saints team that struggled offensively last season, finishing 19th in rushing yards. However, with the addition of Williams and quarterback Derek Carr, who also signed with the Saints this offseason, the team is looking to turn things around and make a deep playoff run.
