The last time Justin Fields threw an interception, the Bears had a 1-4 record, Tyson Bagent had yet to make his regular-season debut, and even contemplating the idea of a late-season playoff push for Chicago would have seemed outlandish.

That pivotal moment occurred in Week 6, just a quarter away from Fields suffering a dislocated thumb and subsequently missing four games.

Since his return, Fields has completed an impressive 93 consecutive passes without an interception. This marks the first time in Fields' career that he has gone three consecutive games without throwing an interception. This heightened ball security is a significant achievement for Fields as he strives to establish himself as the long-term solution at quarterback for the Bears.

However, Fields acknowledges that there is room for improvement in this area.

"I'm focused on making the best decisions I can," Fields stated during a press conference at Halas Hall. "We emphasize avoiding turnovers. So, yes, I'm committed to my role as the quarterback of this team, and of course, I need to continue the trend of no interceptions, but I also need to minimize fumbles."

Fields has demonstrated highly efficient play since his return from the thumb injury in Week 11. During this period, he has amassed 609 passing yards and two touchdowns in his last three games, completing 66.6% of his passes. Impressively, he has not thrown an interception but has encountered fumble issues, losing possession twice in those instances.

Fields appears to be hitting his stride at a crucial juncture, considering the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Bears.

Head coach Matt Eberflus has noted progress in several aspects of Fields' game during his third year as the team's signal-caller. This growth comes as no surprise given Fields' dedication to improving his skills.

"His pocket presence has improved, as has his rhythm and timing," Eberflus commented. "He's become better at looking down the field before he exits the pocket. Additionally, he's taken better care of the football lately, particularly in terms of interceptions. For a quarterback, a perfect game means zero turnovers, and that increases our chances of winning."

Improving pocket presence has been a focus of Fields and the Bears' offensive staff over the past two seasons. A particular play from the Bears' recent victory over the Detroit Lions showcased that progress.

Facing a third-and-8 from their own 11-yard line, Fields encountered pressure from the right and the middle immediately after dropping back. However, Fields skillfully evaded the rush while maintaining his downfield vision in search of a big play. When no options materialized, he scrambled from the pocket, gaining 19 yards and a first down.

Eberflus pointed out the significance of the finishing part of that play, which allowed Fields to escape the sack. He commended Fields for his ability to look down the field to make passes, as well as his capacity to escape pressure and deliver strong throws. Fields' strength, lower body power, and balance contribute to his capability in this regard.

Fields' improvement is a testament to his consistent effort, both on the field and in the film room. Yet, Fields attributes much of his progress to the experience gained from past mistakes.

"I believe it's about learning from previous mistakes," Fields explained. "Last year, there were times when I would escape the pocket or run without a clear purpose. Now, I'm working on staying within the pocket, feeling its dynamics, and making downfield passes."

Fields' growth has been evident throughout the season, particularly since his return from injury. Despite facing numerous challenges and with much at stake, Fields continues to elevate his game, maintaining a steadfast commitment to his daily approach.

"He's been a true professional. He remains the same," Eberflus emphasized. "In this profession, consistency is crucial. You need to be the same person every day. Adversity is part of the game, and you have to anticipate it and have a plan for when it occurs. How will you respond when adversity strikes and knocks you down? That's something you need to premeditate. Justin does an excellent job of maintaining that mindset."
