One of the biggest stories surrounding the Bears' first pre-season game was the grass quality at Soldier Field. Here are a few photos, just for context.

Chicago QB Justin Fields said things were worse when the Bears practiced there Tuesday. He also said he tries to use the conditions to work in his favor.

«I knew how our grass was,» he said. «So I knew other teams didn't know how it was, so I kind of used it to my advantage in running and stuff like that, using the long spikes and stuff like that.»

The conditions didn't seem to bother Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes. The four-time Pro Bowler threw for 60 yards and a touchdown on the Chiefs' first possession and his day was done afterward.

«I think they had a concert so there was some stuff here and there, but it wasn't any crazy, bad (stuff) or anything like that,» he said. «I love playing here at Soldier Field. It's an awesome stadium. You feel the history of it.»

Bears K Cairo Santos, to the Sun-Times:

«It's reckless that we have...big-time players on both teams out there, and it's too bad if the field becomes an issue where there's an injury and that star is out for the season... It's a reckless thing that they're not taking care of it. It's better for me to just accept it & learn how to overcome it, which is what I've done, versus whining and making excuses about it... It hasn't been something that's concerned me... I don't think that field could cause me to miss kicks."

The Bears are planning to leave Soldier Field and move to the suburbs, where they'll build their own stadium that likely will have an artificial surface. The grass isn't the primary reason the Bears are leaving, but it's among the many issues the Bears have with the city-owned Soldier Field.
