Long has said in the past that he would be willing to come back to the Bears under a different regime. With literally a new coach at every position and a new GM as well, I guess it's safe to say it's not the same regime as it was when he left the Bears back in 2019.
I'm not entirely sure what his health is now. He has been so unlucky with injuries in recent years. Long originally retired when he left Chicago but he then decided to come back to play with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Technically, Long hasn't played in an NFL game since the 2019 season. He retired in 2020 and attempted to come back a year later in 2021, signing with the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal in March 2021. His return was cut short, however. Long sustained a knee injury during a June 10 practice, which landed him on the physically unable to perform list. He was eventually activated in late November of last year, but he never saw the field.
He is, however, only 33 years old at this point. If he is able to stay healthy, I'm sure he could be a great addition to the Bears line.
But, Long responded to a fan page suggesting that the Bears have an open spot at right guard with a GIF saying that he was purely concentrating on being a father at the moment.
Here it is:
I think this pretty much closes the door on a return. I'm not saying never, but very unlikely at this point.
