Landing Spots for Nick Foles

Now that the Bears have parted ways with Nick Foles, what does his future hold? Odds are, his days of being a starting Super Bowl champion are in his rearview mirror. But he is not completely washed up. Nick Foles has made a living being a very successful backup. Foles will be entering his 11th season in the NFL and possibly joining his fifth team. He spent half of his career with the Eagles, two years with the Bears, and then one year with the Chiefs, Rams, and Jaguars. Does he follow in the footsteps of Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is on his ninth team in the 17 years he's been in the league? Here are my projections for possible landing spots for Foles this next year.

Jacksonville Jaguars

As I said before, Foles has connections with the Jags, he was on their bench before being traded to the Bears. But now with head coach Doug Peterson at the helm, you add in the Eagles connection as well. The Jags didn't draft a quarterback this year because they have their man in Trevor Lawrence. At least they hope so, with every coaching change could bring on the quarterback change just like Nagy and Trubisky. By bringing on Foles, Peterson has someone who knows his system and is more dependable than C.J. Beathard and Jake Luton.

Baltimore Ravens

In what would be a new team for Foles, the Ravens are well established with Lamar Jackson. But they only have Tyler Huntly on their bench, should something happen to Jackson again, Huntly was not the answer they were looking for. He threw three touchdowns, four interceptions, and was sacked 18 times! Bringing on Foles would be a veteran in a room and a solid backup should Jackson go down.

Dallas Cowboys

The bottom line is Dak needs help. He teeters on the very edge of the "Elite QB" debate. I am not at all saying that Foles is the key that unlocks Dak's full potential! What I am saying is that he needs another set of eyes in that quarterback room who have more than three years of experience. The Cowboys' quarterback room is crowded with four quarterbacks already. But beyond Dak, the other three have been in the league for nine years and a combined 15 games played. At least two of them are destined to go back to the practice team, opening a spot for Nick Foles.

Detroit Lions

Nick Foles' career was built on being the guy that's just good enough to beat the starter but not consistent enough to be the full-time starter. Enter the Detroit Lions. Jared Goff is not the elite quarterback that he was drafted to be. Nick Foles is very comparable to his skill set. Foles may not be leaps and bounds better than Goff, but he is better than Tim Boyle. Foles will not step in and become an automatic starter, but if there's a team where he could compete for a starting spot, Detroit is that place. He and Goff could make each other better.

Houston Texans

Lovie needs some stability at his quarterback position in his first year back as a head coach. Davis Mills struggled in his first year as a starter. Though it wasn't completely his fault, he wasn't exactly given an arsenal to work with. Kyle Allen showed flashes of ability with the Panthers but it never amounted to a starting spot. With Nick Foles, he would at least have a safety valve if not an option to change out quarterbacks mid-season should there be epic failures. But it would be a case where Foles would possibly be sitting as a 3rd stringer again with no hopes of seeing the field, just holding a clipboard for two young hopefuls.
