He asked Smith about new Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and here is his response:
«They're getting a good, sound, fundamental football coach. You look at what I think most fans are looking for in their head football coach: a hard-nosed guy. He's a head coach basically based on what he's done on the defensive side of the football. I know the brand of defense he's gonna play. He's a good, fundamentally-sound football coach, gonna do a great job."
I don't believe everything that I hear from NFL experts or writers, but I do value Lovie Smith's opinion very highly. I think he is such an honest man and he knows what makes a great football head coach.
For those of you not aware, Lovie Smith spent over 9 years with the Bears. He had a pretty decent track record in Chicago. He had a win-loss record of 81-63 in the regular season and he won 3 playoffs games. His team also reached the super bowl in 2006. He also spent 5 seasons as the head coach at the University of Illinois.
Earlier last month, the Houston Texans announced that Lovie Smith will be their next head coach. I think if anyone can turn around that franchise, it's Lovie. He is a tremendous coach and more importantly, a great leader of man.
