The fledgling Seattle Kraken NHL team has attracted two new members to its investment group. Rapper Macklemore and former NFL star Marshawn Lynch have joined the Kraken as minority investors, led by majority owner David Bonderman and Samantha Holloway, chairperson of the executive committee. They play in the newly named Climate Pledge Arena, whose naming rights are owned by Amazon.
Macklemore, a Seattle native, has invested a lot into Seattle sports in the past few years, starting Bogey Boys a golf and lifestyle brand in 2021 and backing the Five Iron Golf which is a Top Golf Esque franchise on Capitol Hill. Marshawn and Macklemore took to the ice, Macklemore in skates, and Marshawn on a Zamboni to show off their shiny new investment.
With the creation of the USFL, the XFL hanging in the rafters and some new expansion teams showing up it will be interesting how they market new teams and leagues going forward with big sponsorships and even bigger investors.
