One of the biggest things the Chicago Bears have been lacking in the past few years is a true, charismatic, leader of a head coach. Matt Nagy was never the greatest motivator of men. Well, it looks like the newest Bears HC Matt Eberflus is trying to fit that mould. He revealed that he was guided by one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time in his coaching methods.

Here is a question that head coach Matt Eberlfus was asked during his interview after the end of Part 2 of the OTAs:

It's difficult to evaluate players during non-contact practices without pads, especially offensive and defensive linemen. So, what does Eberflus look for?

Response:

Mentally. So mentally what you assess this time of year is can the guy pick it up? Is he fast mentally? Can he think on his feet? Is he able to make the adjustments on the fly? That's #1. Then #2, physically, what you can see is the athletic ability. I like to see athletes we're acquiring here, really good athletes that can run and have speed. Can they operate and be quick but not in a hurry, as coach wooden would say.»

Coach Wooden is John Wooden, who coached UCLA basketball from 1948 to 1975.

Nicknamed the "Wizard of Westwood", Wooden won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year span as the head coach for the UCLA Bruins, including a record seven in a row. No other team has won more than four in a row. Within this period, his teams won an NCAA men's basketball record of 88 consecutive games. Wooden won the prestigious Henry Iba Award as national coach of the year a record seven times and won the AP award five times.

Safe to say that he had a pretty successful career as a coach and that pretty much every NFL coach could learn something from him!
