Matt Eberflus opens up on Lovie Smith returning to Soldier Field this weekend.
When the Chicago Bears host the Houston Texans on Sunday, it will also mean the return of long-time Bears HC Lovie Smith to Soldier Field.
Smith has been one of the most appreciated coaches in recent Chicago memory. He also had a pretty good amount of success with the Bears. Indeed, during his nine seasons with Chicago, he led the Bears to an 84-66 record, which included three playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in 2006.
New Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is very familiar with Smith and there's an appreciation for what Lovie has accomplished throughout his time in Chicago.
«I know Lovie as an acquaintance,» Eberflus said. «We certainly would talk if we see each other face-to-face and we have done that. Just appreciation for what he has done for the game of football. He's had his units playing the right way, has respected the game the right way, and the accomplishments he's had. He's been a head coach for a long time and he's been steady that way and really good. I just appreciate that from him. And what kind of man he is, too, just from hearing from coach Rod and everybody else, coach Dungy, all of the guys I have contact with more, just what they say about him.»
I agree and I will say that I have nothing but tremendous respect and appreciation for Lovie Smith. He is such a class-act man that deserves to find success in the NFL. I also know for a fact that he was extremely beloved by the players during his coaching career with the Bears.
