"His running style stands out," Eberflus said about Johnson, as reported by Courtney Cronin of ESPN. "He's a downhill runner, and we're excited about what he brings. He's got great vision on the field. Since joining us, we've been really impressed with his style. We're going to let him compete, and we'll see where it goes."
Johnson showcased his skills in the Bears' 23-17 home victory over the Tennessee Titans in the first week of the 2023 NFL preseason, leading the team with 44 yards on 12 carries. He also demonstrated his versatility by catching three out of four targets in the same game.
Although Khalil Herbert and D'Onta Foreman are currently ahead of Johnson in the Bears' running back hierarchy, he could soon find himself in a prime position to become the team's RB1.
The Bears selected Johnson in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 115th overall pick. Before joining the NFL, Johnson played four seasons at the University of Texas, where he accumulated 2,190 yards and five touchdowns on 392 carries as a Longhorn.
