Going into the offseason, Poles knew very well that he would be face to face with a difficult predicament regarding the Bears' RB situation. Having considered the possibility of re-signing star RB David Montgomery, who posted impressive numbers last year, Montgomery ended up joining the divisional rival Detroit Lions. which led Poles to securing D'Onta Foreman on a reported one-year, $3 million deal.
Foreman played for the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 season, where he was thrust into the role of starting running back after the team traded Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. In his fifth year as a running back, Foreman capitalized on his opportunities and achieved career highs across the board, including rushing yards, coming just short of 1000 yards.
