New Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus joined the Chris Collinsworth podcast last week. One of the most interesting subjects they talked about was Eberflus experience with the legendary Nick Saban.

For those of you that don't know him, Saban is widely regarded as the greatest college football coach of all time. He is mostly known for his time at Louisiana State University and at the University of Alabama.

Both men are connected because Saban was the head coach at the University of Toledo in 1990. Eberflus was a four-year letterman and a three-year starting linebacker at Toledo from 1988 to 1991. He was actually the team captain when Saban was coaching.

Here is what Eberflus said on this subject:

My Nick Saban experience just playing for him in 1990 and watching him take over that program, his first year as a head coach and the way he did it and I still remember the first meeting with him, as a player. He came in and said: "This is going to be the hardest thing you guys ever do. There will be a lot of you guys that don't make it because it's so hard". And then he puts you to his training program- 16 stations at 6 am. And there are guys dropping like flies. " .

Eberflus then mentioned that they had a great team that year and they won the MAC championship in Saban's first year ever as a football head coach. He also mentioned that this was a great learning experience.

Hopefully, Eberflus will be able to bring in a little bit of what he learned under, arguably, the greatest football coach ever to the Chicago Bears starting now!

Here is the clip of Ebeflus opening statement as the Bears' head coach:
