As seen in her mock draft, Frelund has the Bears selecting Notre Dame OT Joe Alt with the first overall pick.
This choice is definitely a surprise, as I have yet to see any mock drafts showing an OT being selected first this year. Alt is certainly a first-rounder, but for him to be picked first by a team who is eyeing either a WR or QB is surprising to see.
The last time an offensive lineman was drafted as the first pick was back in 2013 when the Chiefs drafted Eric Fisher. Fisher went on to have a solid career, being named as a 2-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champ.
I would assume the Bears are not interested in selecting an OT with their first pick, as they are in need of either a QB or WR, or even an edge rusher, with their first pick.
