In a new mock draft from draft analyst Chris Trapasso, he has the Bears selecting USC QB Caleb Williams at number 1, and selecting UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu with their extra first-round pick:
2024 NFL mock draft: Vikings trade for Kyler Murray, Patriots land Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 4
It seems like all season long, there has only been discussion around the Bears' first pick, and forgetting that they will have a second pick in the first-round. The Williams selection has been a common choice this past season, but the Latu choice is something that we have not heard much of.
Latu started his college career playing for Washington, and then transferred to UCLA in 2022. In 33 games played, Latu finishes his college career with 100 tackles with 35.5 of them for loss. He earned 24 sacks, along with 5 forced fumbles, 4 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions.
Latu is quick on his feet even while being 6 foot 4 and 265 pounds. A ton of upper and lower body strength along with great hand movements. He has a lot of similarities to Bears DE Montez Sweat, and would look great on the field with him.
Latu has a perfect size and frame for an edge rusher, and adding his speed and agility is something all teams should note.
