Netflix has teased audiences with the first trailer for the forthcoming season. The four-part series will delve into various sports narratives, including the journey of YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, steroid usage in professional sports, the story of Manziel himself, and a deep dive into the Florida Gators football team, guided by Tim Tebow.
In the glimpses we get of Manziel's narrative, the former Texas A&M University player candidly unveils startling facets of his career. "I thought I played better the harder I partied," confessed Manziel. "Nineteen-year-old kid, have a hundred grand stuffed under your bed It was awesome."
The trailer also hints at a shocking tale involving an extravagant "$5 million bender." The Heisman trophy recipient reflects on the hollow victory of acquiring all he had ever aspired for, saying, "that was the most empty I ever felt inside."
Manziel's legacy seems to be more infamously linked to his partying lifestyle than his on-field performance. The trailer touches upon the life-altering shift that followed his Heisman Trophy win in 2012, a first-ever achievement by a freshman.
That same year, Manziel faced legal trouble with three misdemeanor charges lodged against him. "I don't think we have seen a player play that way and live that way," a voiceover comments in the trailer.
Despite the controversies, Manziel's freshman season was impressive with the Aggies going 9-4, which included a significant 29-24 upset victory over No. 1 Alabama.
However, Manziel's NFL career did not mirror his college success; it began disastrously and spiraled downhill from there. A mere two years after being their first-round pick, the Browns released Manziel following accusations of assault by an ex-girlfriend.
In the subsequent years, Manziel dabbled with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes in 2018, signed with the AAF's Memphis Express in 2019, and even played for the FCF's Zappers in 2021.
