Recent rumours made surfaced that the NFL is interested in having flag football in the 2028 Olympics. The question that we need to ask ourselves is: Is this realistic?

I think that it could actually happen.

Here is what NFL International CEO Damani Leech said on this subject :

«If flag football becomes an Olympic sport, more countries will invest in playing that sport,»

I understand that flag football might not be the same as real tackling football, but it's still a pretty good start. This would indeed be an amazing showcase for our great game and more importantly, our great athletes performing the game. However, it would be hard to sell this sport since it's not a huge sport all around the world. Of course, more countries outside of the US are starting to grow the game. You can think of Canada, Mexico, England and France where American football has become a lot bigger than it used to be. But, besides those countries, it's not such a huge sport.

Football's next chance, and perhaps its best in many decades, is the 2028 Los Angeles Games. If any host is going to propose adding football, the country where it was invented and where it's so big makes the most sense. Football was contested once at the Olympics, at the first Los Angeles Games in 1932, as a demonstration sport.

I think it's fair to say that the US team would be completely incredible and it would be such a joy to watch them perform. Just imagine QB Lamar Jackson teaming up with Tyreek Hill and Christian McCaffrey. You could think of any great skills player and they would be so good in flag football.
