New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has expressed hesitancy about returning to the field, adding another layer of intrigue to the team's ongoing saga.

According to reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt, Wilson was described as "reluctant" to resume playing. Furthermore, it was revealed that fellow quarterback Aaron Rodgers had reached out to encourage Wilson to retake the starting role. However, Wilson declined due to his perceived concerns about injury risk.

These conversations with Rodgers occurred after Wilson had made his reluctance to start clear to various members of the organization, including players, staff, and coaches.

In response to these reports, Jets head coach Robert Saleh addressed the situation during his media availability, stating that if Wilson were truly reluctant to play, he wouldn't be with the team. Saleh had recently spoken with Wilson and acknowledged the young quarterback's desire to start and his belief that he's the best option for the team. However, Saleh expressed his hesitance to make that decision at the moment.

When pressed further about the Wilson report, Saleh maintained that he would not divulge all his discussions with players.

Saleh later appeared on "The Michael Kay Show" and suggested that it's possible Wilson had conversations with teammates about not playing, although he didn't confirm or deny it outright.

The overarching theme in this unfolding story is that the Jets organization, in the midst of a challenging season, is displaying signs of internal strife, reminiscent of past regimes in their declining stages. This trend has occurred under previous coaching and management teams, and despite initial promise, it seems to be surfacing once again.

The reports surrounding Wilson could be indicative of a broader issue, where players, coaches, and the front office are adopting a preservation mindset in the face of a season marred by offensive struggles and losses.

Both Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas bear responsibility for various shortcomings during their tenures so far. Whether it's Saleh's decision-making or Douglas's personnel choices, each has contributed to the Jets' lack of success.

Unless there is a significant turnaround, it appears unlikely that the Jets will experience much improvement this season. Even the presence of a Hall-of-Fame quarterback like Aaron Rodgers may not be sufficient to prevent major changes if more reports, like the one concerning Wilson, continue to emerge amid ongoing offensive struggles and losses.
