Gray expressed his excitement at the prospect of learning from Getsy this week, as he already had a prior connection with the coach. Gray, who hails from Memphis and was a star running back at Lausanne Collegiate School, was named Tennessee's Mr. Football following his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. After spending one year playing at Tennessee alongside Bears receiver Velus Jones Jr., he transferred to Oklahoma in 2021.
Gray asserts that Getsy's greatest attribute as a coach is his interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with players. Gray explains that Getsy is approachable, and players are not intimidated to approach him for guidance or conversation.
Gray is not the only American team member at the Senior Bowl who was recruited by Getsy during his tenure at Mississippi State. Other players include Mississippi receiver Jonathan Mingo, Alabama defensive lineman Byron Young, and Auburn defensive end Derick Hall. Mingo, a standout from Brandon High School in Mississippi, recalls his official visit to Starkville where he spoke with Getsy about working with Packers receiver Davante Adams. Getsy served as Green Bay's receivers coach from 2016 to 2017.
Mingo is grateful for the opportunity to work with Getsy once again and describes him as an excellent and personable coach who is always focused on improving players' skills. He asserts that while some coaches are solely business-oriented, Getsy has a good relationship with his players and is always eager to discuss and improve their craft.
