Patrick Mahomes Tells Story Of How Matt Nagy Helped Him Cheat During His Pre-Draft Interview With Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City fans can thank Matt Nagy for getting the Chiefs to draft him in 2017.
Mahomes revealed on the New Heights Podcast (hosted by Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce) that when Mahomes was preparing for a pre-draft interview with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Nagy set him up to succeed.
"He really liked me, so he gave me the plays they were going to go over the night before," Mahomes said. "Of course I crushed the meeting. I stayed up all night studying those plays."
Mahomes added that he also tried to leverage his way to the Chiefs during the meeting, telling the organization that he likely wasn't going to be available after the 12th pick. The Chiefs selected him 10th overall.
Nagy's tenure with the Bears didn't go so well, but he's back in Kansas City now as Mahomes' quarterbacks coach.
Who knows what would have happened if Nagy hadn't tipped off Mahomes about which plays they were going to break down in that meeting.
