The New England Patriots are, undoubtedly, a team to keep a vigilant eye on in the upcoming NFL season.

Rumors have been swirling about the legendary head coach, Bill Belichick, teetering on the brink, potentially facing dismissal from the franchise he helped build into a powerhouse, should they miss the playoffs for the third time in four years.

In addition, the Patriots' quarterback, Mac Jones, finds himself in a precarious situation, potentially battling for his position following a challenging second year. With Bill O'Brien re-joining the fold as the offensive coordinator, Jones' performance is now under even closer scrutiny.

Notably, several seasoned veterans within the Patriots might also see their positions under threat during the training camp and pre-season. This includes the $24 million cornerback, Jalen Mills. According to Bleacher Report's Joe Tansey, the Patriots might consider trading Mills due to their surplus of cornerbacks and safeties:

"The first-round selection of Christian Gonzalez could place Jalen Mills in a precarious position.

With Gonzalez and Jonathan Jones earmarked for starting cornerback positions, and Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers expected to start as safeties, Mills might find himself edged out. He could potentially be ousted from a roster spot by Adrian Phillips or rookie Marte Mapu in the safety position, and it's doubtful he'd find a way to be a backup cornerback with Marcus Jones and Myles Bryant already in line...

Despite having a stellar preseason, Mills could still find himself without a starting position, thus making him an attractive option on the trade market. His potential trade market would be determined by injuries and preseason performances elsewhere, but a perfect opportunity might see him being traded."

Two years prior, the Patriots enlisted Mills, a former Philadelphia Eagle and Super Bowl 52 champion, with a four-year contract worth $24 million. Despite being released by the Patriots earlier in the off-season, Mills was soon brought back, albeit on a cheaper contract. Throughout his career, the 29-year-old has accomplished seven interceptions, 52 pass defenses, and a total of 361 combined tackles. Last season, Mills registered two interceptions and 15 pass defenses in 10 games for the Patriots.
