Caleb Williams has officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, ending the suspense surrounding his decision just before the underclassmen deadline. The USC quarterback, considered the likely No. 1 overall pick, had contemplated staying in college for his senior season but ultimately chose to turn pro.
Despite not being named a Heisman finalist and USC falling short of their title aspirations in 2023, Williams had an impressive junior season. He threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only five interceptions while adding 11 rushing touchdowns. In his Heisman-winning season in 2022, he passed for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns, and five interceptions with 10 rushing touchdowns.
With Williams officially in the draft pool, the Chicago Bears, who own the No. 1 overall pick thanks to a trade made last offseason, will have the first opportunity to select him. Speculation has arisen about whether the Bears might trade the top pick for the second consecutive year. Justin Fields showed promise towards the end of the 2023 season, and Chicago faces a decision regarding his costly fifth-year option.
