Linebacker Willie Gay, who missed the AFC Championship Game due to a neck injury, was reportedly spotted in practice on Thursday. According to reporter Aaron Ladd, who shared a video of Gay participating fully, it seems that Gay is back in action.
The 25-year-old suffered the injury during the Divisional Round game against the Buffalo Bills, causing him to sit out the matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Having Gay back on the field would be a considerable positive for Andy Reid and the Kansas City team, as he is a key player in their defensive unit.
In the 2023 season, Gay played in 16 games and recorded impressive stats, including 58 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and four passes defended.
While his return hasn't been officially confirmed, the signs are certainly encouraging.
The Chiefs are gearing up to face the San Francisco 49ers on February 11, in a rematch of the 2020 Super Bowl, which they emerged victorious from. This upcoming clash promises to be intense, with the Niners establishing themselves as one of the league's top teams in 2023, especially with Brock Purdy leading the way after his first full season as a starter.
