We're in a holding pattern.

Ryan Poles, the bold GM known for making daring moves, remains in the batter's box, but the swing hasn't come yet.

Justin Fields remains on the roster.

While some depth has been added in free agency, the Bears haven't directly addressed their major weaknesses.

The most excitement lately came with the news of Simone Biles joining Chicago, courtesy of her husband Jonathan Owens, who is now a Bears safety.

But beyond that, there isn't much to celebrate.

Sure, Kevin Byard should bolster the secondary, but signings like D'Andre Swift and Gerald Everett address positions where the team is already solid. Ryan Bates and Owens provide depth, but the core needs remain unaddressed.

We've been hyping the Bears' cap space for ages, only to see it spent conservatively.

And then there's the ongoing saga of Justin Fields.

Now, there's talk of hanging onto Fields through training camp in hopes of a QB injury elsewhere sparking interest. But this strategy is flawed at its core.

Drafting Caleb Williams seems imminent, which means Fields would be relegated to backup status. It's not fair to him, nor is it conducive to Williams' development.

Williams needs to enter a stable environment, free from unnecessary distractions. Keeping Fields around would only add to the noise.

It's not just bad for the players; it's bad for Matt Eberflus too. Managing a QB controversy while trying to establish a winning culture is a recipe for disaster.

And let's not forget about the fans. This debate is tearing the fanbase apart.

Yes, we all hoped for a better return on Fields, but clinging to him out of stubbornness is futile. It's time to cut our losses and move forward, no matter how tough it may be.
