After securing their inaugural victory of the 2023 season on Thursday, the Bears might find the scales tipping in their favor for a consecutive win this weekend.

Prominent NFL receiver, Justin Jefferson, may not make an appearance when the Vikings play in Chicago on Sunday, giving the Bears a possible edge.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network was the first to report that the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year is likely to be put on injured reserve by the Vikings owing to a hamstring injury he sustained during their recent defeat to the Chiefs. This means Jefferson will be absent for at least the next four games, commencing with Sunday's clash against the Bears.

Both the Bears and the Vikings are currently standing at a 1-4 record this season. The absence of Jefferson, who has amassed 36 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns in just five games this season, is a significant setback for the Vikings. Following his impressive previous season with 128 receptions, 1,809 yards, and eight touchdowns, he earned the titles of first-team NFL All-Pro and the league's offensive player of the year.

A 2020 first-round pick for Minnesota, Jefferson's stats boast 360 receptions for 5,396 yards and 28 touchdowns in 55 games. In his six matchups against the Bears, he has registered 41 receptions, 585 yards, and two touchdowns, contributing to the Vikings' 5-1 record in these encounters.

Without Jefferson on the field, the Bears' pass defense, currently ranked 31st in the league, might get a much-needed respite.
