Roquan Smith shares details on his future with the Bears
It's been well-documented that superstar LB Roquan Smith is entering the last year of his deal.
Ever since he was drafted with the 8th pick in 2018, he has been an incredible player for the Bears' defense. His value is, obviously, very high at the moment.
It seems like the most effective way to handle toses situations in the NFL lately has been to extend said player a year before his contract expires. I think GM Ryan Poles should probably choose that way. This would ensure the franchise of having a top 5 linebacker for multiple years in the future. In order words, PAY THE MAN!
When asked about his future in Chicago, Smith was very reassuring to Bears Nation:
"That's a heck of an opportunity to have," Smith said. "Resetting things and starting over fresh, it's a great opportunity to be the face of the new regime. And doing whatever it takes to make this the best regime in Bears history, that's my plan."
When he was asked if he sees himself as a Bear long-term wise, Roquan immediately said: "Absolutely".
When asked about what he can improve prior to the season, here is what he had to say:
"My goal is to be the best linebacker in the league and the best leader I can be for this team," he said. "I think if I do that, I'll put us in a great situation of being a very good defense. "There's always room for improvement, and I think it's just not being complacent and being able to work on and rep different things,"
"Say if my pass coverage is good, there are still little things I can get better at. My block protection, learning different new techniques with that. It's just a combination of a lot of things: reading, route recognition. There's a variety of things that I can get better at, and I can continually improve at throughout this camp."
