Ryan Poles finally opens up on the Roquan Smith situation
While the sentiment in the past few months was fairly positive around new Bears GM Ryan Poles, it looks like many fans were furious at him this morning.
For those of you not aware, Bears superstar LB Roquan Smith asked to be traded out of Chicago this morning.
While Smith has never made a Pro Bowl, he's earned two All-Pro nods and there's no denying he's one of the league's most dynamic linebackers. Well, GM Ryan Poles took the initiative to call out a press conference and he mentioned many interesting things about the situation.
He started the conference with a very strong statement.
Right now, my intentions are to sign Roquan to this team."
He continues: "My intentions are to make sure Roquan Smith is on this team."
«There are record-setting pieces for this contract that I thought would show (Roquan Smith) the respect that he deserves, and obviously that hasn't been the case. We're doing everything we can to get this done.»
My job is to build a roster that is going to sustain success for a long period of time. At the end of the day, we have to do what's best for the Chicago Bears.»
