Ryan Poles opens up on Roquan Smith's situation!
It seems like we are back to 2018 all over again...
Smith reported to the first day of Bears' training camp today, but he will not practice until he gets a contract to his liking, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Even if he's gone overlooked, Roquan Smith has compiled a stellar career to this point.
He desires a contract that mirrors it, and since the Bears have yet to offer such a deal, Smith won't be participating in training camp when veterans report on Tuesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. Smith has yet to receive an offer "he would remotely consider," per Rapoport, so he will continue to wait for a more serious proposal before considering taking the field.
Smith is heading into the fifth and final season of his rookie contract and has a base salary of $9,735,000 this season.
When Ryan Poles was asked if he wants to get a deal done now w/ Roquan Smith or get to know him better/see him first?
Poles: "That's a tough question. I mean, I'm not going to get into the thoughts on what I would prefer and all of that. I just kind of do what's on the table right now."
Poles on Roquan Smith's reported hold out/in: "My feelings for Roquan don't change at all. I love the player and the person and that won't change."
