Siemian is a former 7th-round pick by the Denver Broncos. He surprised everyone and gained the starting job as soon as in his second year. He played 3 seasons in Denver and he was a pretty solid quarterback.
Siemian then signed with the New Orleans Saints last season. He played in 6 games and started 4 of them. Although he didn't win a game, he played actually great. In those 4 starts, he had 1154 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Today, former New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton said on ESPN's 1000's that Siemian is "one of those guys that's outstanding for the room." He then went on for a while about how great Siemian has been for his organization and that he is a class act all around. This is so great to hear because these players have a crucial role in a locker room, especially when it's a quarterback than can have a pretty significant leadership role like Siemian. I think he will also be able to teach young QB Justin Fields a lot of things in the upcoming years.
While quarterback is not the first position that comes to mind when we think of "needs" for the Bears, it's still important. I truly believe Ryan Poles will try to get rid of Nick Foles via trade or even release him. Siemian will be a very serviceable backup to Justin Fields. He will be reliable and he is known for being a great locker room player that gets along with everyone.
Siemian is 6"3 220 pounds. He can move pretty well in the pocket and he has great touch on deep throws. While he something struggles with his accuracy, I love that he is very quick in his decision-making. With a potential weaker offensive line, any quarterback starting for the Bears will have to be able to get rid of the ball quickly.
