Some NFL Executives Are Not Fans of the Claypool Trade
The Chicago Bears have been making some moves in their wide receiver room, and it's looking pretty solid these days with D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney, and Chase Claypool.
However the deal doesn't appear to delight some NFL executives, and the trade has been a contentious subject.
One unnamed executive, speaking to The Athletic, expressed his disappointment with the deal.
It's true that Claypool's first half-season with the Bears was underwhelming. He struggled with injuries and also getting on the field at the same time as Justin Fields because of his own injuries.
It remains to be seen if Claypool will live up to expectations in the coming season, but the controversy surrounding his trade shows just how high the stakes are in the NFL draft.
However, GM Ryan Poles is sticking by his decision
On top of that, it was a little bit choppy with Justin getting dinged up, [Chase] got dinged up. So it was a little bit choppy of a start. I told Chase, and we had a really good conversation, I'm not blinking at that one at all. I think he's gonna help us moving forward, and I'm excited about it."
Maybe playing just half a season and succumbing to a number of injuries isn't enough to pass judgement on the trade just yet, but Claypool's performance in the upcoming season, and his connection with Justin Fields will be closely monitored.
