With OTAs and Minicamp behind us, we are officially into training camp for the upcoming season for Eberflus', his staff, and the Chicago Bears.

There has been a tremendous emphasis on the work ethic and the intensity of football that the staff is expected to instill in these players throughout off-season activities as we approach preseason and the regular season.

One name in Chicago that resigned with the new regime was veteran safety, DeAndre Houston-Carson. Despite being on the team since 2016 Houston-Carson has been a relatively quiet name with the exception of special teams or as a reserve for the secondary.

According to a member of the security staff for the Chicago Bears, Houston-Carson has been the first Bear on the field getting in extra work.

There's no denying why the new regime decided to bring Houston-Carson back for another stint. Not only has he been a reliable member of the special teams, but Eberflus' defense relies on extra members of the secondary due to a high amount of «nickel» and «dime» packages being called. With a background and experience on special teams, Houston-Carson has the skill set tackling the ball carrier that some members of the secondary lack.

Houston-Carson has had his number called during crucial moments already as a Bear. During the 2020 season when the Bears were facing Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston-Carson was targeted on what be the Bucs final offensive play on a 4th down attempt that would help secure a Bears win.

The following week during the 2020 season Houston-Carson would secure his first career interception against the Carolina Panthers. Teddy Bridgewater was executing the team's «Two Minute Offense» as they trailed by one score late in the game. Houston-Carson would intercept Bridgewater to help secure a Bears victory.
