Former Chicago Bears star running back Tarik Cohen has set his sights on a 2023 NFL return, but fans shouldn't hold their breath for a Windy City reunion.

On August 22, during a live broadcast on his Twitch channel, Cohen shared that he's fully recovered from the series of injuries that sidelined him since 2020. He's currently in talks with "around five or six teams" about possibly joining them for the 2023 season.

However, when eager fans probed for hints about potential teams, Cohen explicitly ruled out a Chicago return.

«Listen, Chicago's moved on,» Cohen said. «They let me go, right in the thick of my struggles it's like they gave up during my awkward phase. It was tough, especially right after I bought a house. It felt like a sudden elimination from the game.»

Drawing a parallel with the game he was streaming, Call of Duty: Warzone, Cohen described his release: «It's like having full armor in Warzone and then getting a headshot. Instantly out."

As for what prompted his return decision? Cohen explained it was an epiphany. «I woke up feeling, 'I can still do this.' My body's felt good, I've been training, running, and even doing backflips. I knew it was time.» He then reached out to his agent to start exploring opportunities.

Cohen's last game was during the 2020 season against the Atlanta Falcons where he suffered severe injuries, sidelining him for the rest of that season and the entirety of 2021.

The onset of the Ryan Poles era saw the Bears severing ties with several veterans. Cohen was among the first to go, a move made just days before a portion of his contract would become fully guaranteed. The Bears also traded star linebacker Khalil Mack and released Eddie Goldman and Danny Trevathan within the same time frame.

Unfortunately, another setback for Cohen occurred two months after his release when he injured his Achilles tendon during a live workout session. This injury benched him for another entire season.

However, Cohen is now optimistic about his future, ready to make his mark with a new team in the upcoming season. Given his thrilling past performances with the Bears, Chicago fans will undoubtedly be cheering him on, wherever he lands.
