Teven Jenkins speaks on his current situation
Ian Rapoport reported a few days ago that the Chicago Bears had been receiving calls about a potential trade regarding second-year OT Teven Jenkins. Jenkins has not been practicing since the start of training camp and was demoted to second-team this off-season. It looks like some bad blood might be settling between him and the new regime.
It is also known that new regimes are much more willing to part ways with young players that weren't drafted by them. Ryan Poles has no particular attachment to Jenkins who was drafted by the previous regime.
Teams have been calling and it is clear that the Bears have been listening. Jenkins is young and talented and has great potential. However, is his time in Chicago coming to an end?
I guess you could say that his time with the Bears has been tumultuous at best. After missing the first 11 games with a back injury, he started two of the final six with limited success. He had a poor Pro Football Focus grade on the season with a 47.5 overall.
After Jenkins went through an injury-abbreviated rookie season, he did not finish this offseason working primarily with the first unit. The Bears were using Braxton Jones, a rookie fifth-rounder, at left tackle and Larry Borom, a 2021 fifth-round choice, as their first-string tackles in camp so far. Chicago has since signed Riley Reiff. The 10-year veteran has worked as a starter throughout his career, and he should be expected to be a starter at one of the Bears' tackle spots. Reiff has played both left and right tackle as a pro.
This whole situation has been unclear since we are never quite sure what Jenkins is going through.
However, Jenkins responded to a Tweet asking if he was fine yesterday.
