The Bears tendered three of their exclusive rights free agents with contracts on Tuesday: Center Sam Mustipher, WR/TE Jesper Horsted, and tackle Lachavious Simmons,
An exclusive rights free agent is a player whose contract is up, but who has only played two or fewer NFL seasons. He can only negotiate with the team that holds his rights. So when a player receives that tender, they have two options: Sign the contract or don't play in the NFL. They are not allowed to negotiate with any other team.
Mustipher started all 17 games last year. While he struggled a bit, you could see some improvement towards the end of the year. He can be, in an ideal world, a very valuable backup lineman.
Horsted played sparingly during the year and he only caught two balls. However, they both went for a score so this is pretty impressive.
Simmons appeared in two games and made one start last season.
