The Chicago suburb of Highland Park was reeling on Tuesday morning, the day after a gunman rained down gunfire from a rooftop overlooking a Fourth of July parade, killing six people and wounding dozens more in the latest outburst of mass gun violence in the United States.

«This tragedy should have never arrived at our doorsteps,» said Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering. «As a small town, everybody knows somebody who was affected by this directly and, of course, we are all still reeling.»

This is such a sad tragedy for the State of Illinois and it hit very close to home for a bunch of Chicago Bears fans...

Since the start of the year, there have been 15 shootings where four or more people have been killed, including the Highland Park one, according to The Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing database.
