Devante Adams has been a player that some Bears fans would love to have on their team. He has been linked to a lot of teams, but the Bears are one of the most recurring ones. Hell, every fan would want him lining up for their squad on Sundays. However, I don't think offering a huge contract to Adams would be in the Bears' best interest.
First of all, it has been reported that Adams wants a contract near or at $30 million per year. That would virtually take all of the Bears' cap space. In addition, who knows if Adams would be as dominant as he was in Green Bay anywhere else. While the idea of pairing him and Justin Fields theoretically sounds exciting, it would not necessarily be a shoo-in success story.
The Fresno State product is also getting a little up there in age. He is currently 29 years old. As we know in the NFL, after you turn 30, you usually regress at a pretty good speed. The Bears should definitely try to find some talent at the receiving position, but it should be younger guys and more importantly, cheaper guys.
In conclusion, while it would be a blockbuster move by Ryan Poles to bring in a guy of the caliber of Adams, I simply don't think it is financially viable and who knows if he would enjoy his time on a run-first team like we feel the bears might have next season.
