The FIERY Competition at Left Tackle is about to HEAT UP
If you have been paying attention to the offseason workout programs then it is easy to note that the Left Tackle spot is one that seems like it is up for grabs. Going into the offseason it seemed as if Tevin Jenkins was going to be the starter going into this season, however that changed when we drafted Braxton Jones in the draft. To everyone's surprise, Braxton Jones has been training with the ones and Tevin Jenkins with the two's. From what we have been hearing, Braxton Jones has been impressive. If this continues at this magnitude, this could become a reality as training camp rolls around at the end of July. Below I have Braxton Jones' scouting report. These are his strengths and weaknesses according to NFL.com...
(Strengths)
Enticing overall size and length.Explodes out of stance and into kick-slides.Good job of staying square longer in pass sets.Quick clinch hands stymie face-up rushers.Expedites inside slides to capture the gap.Outside hand is firm.Choppy settle steps generate momentum into block.Drives through play-side hand to secure move block.
(Weaknesses)
Inaccurate hand placement in run game.Below-average acceleration to second-level landmarks.Can't generate lower-body anger as drive blocker.Rarely ever low man at the point of attack.Inconsistent bringing feet through completion of the block.Lethargic hands with spotty punch timing.Platform instability leads to imbalance in punch contact.Needs to eliminate his outside-in pass-setting approach.Beaten inside throughout the game by Arizona State rushers.
It is not hard to see why the Bears are so high on him. This will be an interesting battle, to say the least!
