Today was a very eventful day in the NFL world when it comes to retirement. Three great players that truly left a mark on the game of football announced that they are hanging their cleats:

1. Alex Mack

Alex Mack is retiring from the NFL following a 13-year career that saw him emerge as one of the best centers in NFL history, Tom Pelissero reported.

Mack was named to seven Pro Bowls and he earned a spot on the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2010s Team during his career.

Mack played his final season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, earning a Pro Bowl nod. His campaign in the Bay Area followed seven seasons to start his career with the Cleveland Browns and five with the Atlanta Falcons thereafter.

2. Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ryan Fitzpatrick, the always interesting quarterback out of Harvard University who brought the "FitzMagic" to the NFL for nine teams spanning 17 seasons, announced his retirement Thursday.

Fitzpatrick, popular throughout his career with his teammates and known for his prolific beard, made the announcement in a text message to his former teammates.

In 17 seasons, Fitzpatrick started 147 games, throwing for 34,990 yards and 223 touchdowns with 169 interceptions. He began his career as a seventh-round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2005, and he also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins and Washington during his career.

Talk about a globe-trotter...

3. Frank Gore.

Frank Gore, who last played in the NFL as a 37-year-old in 2020, is finally hanging up his cleats for good. Gore will sign a one-day contract and retire as a member of the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, according to the Mercury News.

After a very promising rookie year with the 49ers in 2005, Gore went on to post 12 fantastic seasons in the NFL, the majority of them came with the 49ers. Gore rushed for at least 1,000 yards nine times over that period and made the Pro Bowl five times. He leaves the NFL as the 49ers' all-time leading rusher. Gore gained 11,073 rushing yards in his 10 seasons with the franchise.
