Fields now finds himself in the company of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, as part of Pittsburgh's revamped quarterback corps. It's worth noting that neither player was part of Pittsburgh's roster last season.
Although many pundits view Russell Wilson as the top choice for quarterback, Taylor Lewan, a former offensive lineman and three-time Pro Bowler, holds a different opinion. In an interview with the Up & Adams show, Lewan expressed skepticism, stating, "I'm not convinced Russell Wilson has the starting position locked down. The Steelers are investing $1.4 million in Wilson, but Justin Fields, a first-round talent, was acquired for a mere sixth-round pick."
Lewan emphasized that unless there's written confirmation, Wilson's starting status remains uncertain. He suggested that positive reports about Fields during training camp could signal an open competition for the position.
Furthermore, Lewan anticipates intense competition between the two quarterbacks, asserting, "Both these players have something to prove, and competition will only elevate their performance."
